When to call a physiatrist at home
The intervention of the physiatrist at home is particularly useful in case of pathologies that involve anatomical deficits or functional deviations of the nervous system or the musculoskeletal system. The motor autonomy of the person can be compromised due to the following pathologies: after-effects and outcomes of trauma and fractures, cerebral stroke, backache, scoliosis, Parkinson’s disease, ALS and dementia.
How a physiatrist visit at home works
The medical and rehabilitative intervention of the physiatrist at home consist in the following phases: diagnosis, medical history, general review, specialist examination, laboratory and instrumental tests. These phases are part of the so-called evaluation intervention that will allow to plan the most suitable treatments for the full physical and functional rehabilitation of the patient.
Only after the diagnosis it is possible to establish whether the patient needs medication or physiotherapy. There are similar symptoms also for different diseases, such as low back pain which may be due to problems with the spine or a lumbar aortic aneurysm.
